Where to Stay in Girona
The old town (Barri Vell)
Staying in the Barri Vell puts you among the cobbled lanes, the cathedral and the Jewish Quarter, with restaurants and sights on your doorstep. It is the most atmospheric choice and ideal if you only have a night or two. Bear in mind the streets are steep and largely pedestrian, so you may have to carry bags a short way from the nearest car access.
The modern centre and around the station
The Eixample and the area near the train station offer more practical, larger and often better-value rooms, with easy access by car and a flat walk into the old town across the river. This is a good base if you plan day trips by train, want parking, or are travelling with luggage. You are still only ten to fifteen minutes on foot from the cathedral.
