The Pont Eiffel of Girona, officially called Pont de les Peixateries Velles, is a red iron bridge designed by Gustave Eiffel and his company in 1877, twelve years before the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It crosses the Onyar river right next to the colorful Onyar Houses, the postcard image of Girona. The bridge is open to pedestrians 24/7 and is free to visit. The best vantage point to photograph both the Pont Eiffel and the Onyar Houses together is from the Pont de Pedra, just downstream. The Onyar Houses themselves were repainted in ochres, reds and yellows in a 1980s restoration plan led by architects Bohigas and Tarrus.
